The California State Capitol building and two other legislative buildings in downtown Sacramento have officially reopened following an email threat prompted their closure for several hours on Friday morning, according to Fox 40.
Per the report, a message was sent to legislative staff said that law enforcement had officially checked the Capitol, the Legislative Office Building across the street, as well as a nearby building, and cleared them all to reopen.
According to the California Highway Patrol Capitol Protection Section, an email threat was received and the Joint Rules Committee directed that the buildings were temporarily evacuated as CHP and other law enforcement searched the area.
Fox 40 reported that Governor Gavin Newsom was not present as he is in Southern California and most state lawmakers are currently in their districts.
